Peeping Tom

Naughty Neck by Drake Brodahl.

"I Dreamed I Broke Into An Abandoned Church In My Maidenform Bra"

I can't take credit for making the play on the classic Maidenform ad campaign; clotho98 did when posting this vintage photo at Flickr. I can't take credit for finding it either; that credit goes to Miss Fussypants (at her NWS Tumblr). But I will take credit for sharing it with you *wink*

Honey, It's Time To Talk About Our Relationship

One of the most dreaded phrases a woman can utter, I know; but for those of you who didn't panic and flee at the post title, it is that time...

I know I've been away for days & days (a whopping 10 of them), and I feel I owe you an explanation (which I will get to); but hubby, on the other hand, thinks my feeling that way is a neurosis. And one that I should get over.

The simple fact is I was away because priorities dictated it: Car payment + Back to school monies = Late cable payment. And once the cable was reconnected, I still had other obligations (back to school appointments, shopping, and babysitting the younger children of neighbors who had no other resource when their kids were sick).

The whole time though, I missed you all terribly.

And I felt guilty, as if I was letting you all down by not posting -- not even posting a quick "I'll be back soon!"

This guilt drove hubby nuts.

While he has gotten over -- or at least resigned himself to -- the amount of time I spend with you and on this blog, he is "concerned" that my neurotic need to explain my absence is an indicator of a "true obsession" and all the unhealthy things that implies.

To prove to him that I was not mentally unstable (or at least not more so because of this blog), I stayed away to take care of "real life" before returning here with the time to devote to blogging.

Admittedly, the few days away did offer me some perspective. Both on blogging and on hubby. *wink*

As hubby says, it's true that as I am not a paid columnist or anything, I'm not obligated to maintain any regularity; if I were, there wouldn't be the money issues impacting writing/blogging either. That's the trade off, like it or not.

money smoking

Forgive me for being conceited, but I also think it's true that my passion for lingerie and blogging is what makes this blog more special than some of the others on the subject; it's not just a matter of making money.

It would be nice if I made enough money to permit me to be as dedicated as I'd like, for the money to make blogging a priority. But until that day, you and I will both have to deal with the irregularities. I just hope you'll be patient with me, eager to see my return, but not resentful.

And I hope hubby can similarly become as understanding, recognize that blogging and my "internet relationships" are important to me too.

I'm Surprised This Didn't Sell

Who doesn't want to slink around in this vintage cocoa nylon peignoir set with loads of white lace? The angel sleeves sure give my soul wings too.

You Would Be So ? To Come Home To

My Dearest David sent me this photo with the following note:
This is from http://www.dockera.com/news.php which has a really good selection of creative photography. Some erotic, some amusing. A brilliant mind, I think.

That site doesn't credit their images -- and I did use TinEye as Silent Porn Star recommended -- but I still don't know who owns the image. If you do, please let me know!

Lingerie Smalls With Big Textures

Too Sweet, Tout De Suite!

Vintage sheer pale purple nylon chiffon sleeveless peignoir with a very lavish lace collar and a satin ribbon too.

Panties As Fine As Porcelain

I find the name of the Elle Macpherson Intimates Fine China Printed Ditsy Floral Briefs confusing... The juxtaposition of "fine china" and "ditsy" creates cognitive dissonance.

Normally I wouldn't even understand comparing a pair of panties to china -- but in this case, the dainty floral print on the nearly sheer white back does bring to mind the special and fragile feeling you have holding a pretty piece of fine nearly see-through bone china... Maybe Elle should drop the "ditsy" and just call them "Fine Bone-r China Panties." What do you think? *wink*

(Panties now just $20.22 at ASOS.com; sale found in my personalized Sale Mail from Shop It To Me.)

Earn BIG MONEY In A Refined Profession: Sell Lingerie (1956 Ad)

A vintage ad for selling lingerie for Smart-Form; which begs the question... When did it become unrefined to sell lingerie, as it rather is today.

That's not rhetorical; I want to know.

Everything is relative, I know; but in the hierarchy of professions -- even limiting oneself to fashion and retail -- lingerie is lower on the list in terms of prestige.

Tell someone you sell makeup for Field's, and you're glamorous as hell; tell 'em you work in intimate apparel, and, after the jokes stop (Doesn't everyone wear underwear to work - Ha Ha Ha), people aren't thinking your gig is glam.

Sell vintage dresses online, and you're too cool for school; sell vintage lingerie and "OMG, you sell used underwear??!"

...Of course, it could be that the ad is lying about the status of such a profession. But I still want to know why selling lingerie is so darn dirty or at least a far cry from "refined."

So share your thoughts.

UPDATE: I mistyped the year in the post title as 1946; it has been corrected to the correct year of 1956.

Always Remember, Lingerie Is A Sheer Delight

No Fumar Has Me Fuming

We interrupt this lingerie blog to bring you someone else's rant about smoking. The management concurs; and, as she is not an idiot, neither needs nor wants lectures to the contrary. Should she receive it anyway, she will retaliate with a long-winded post -- and, yes, her lungs can mange that.

(Image from Debonair, Vol 3 No 18, August, 1967; found via S & M = Smoke & Mirrors.)

Triple Teddy Threat

Blog regular Van Phair sent me a link to the Secrets In Lace Button Front Teddy, saying "Their panties are great as it is, but this is incredible. I would never take it off (and I am a guy!)" The spectacular teddy comes in pale pink, mint, and ivory, has ecru lace accents, and flirty flared chiffon panels at the side of the legs. Sizes small through XXL.

Sharon Tate's Feathered Lingerie

She has her own wings now, dear one.

(Also a reminder to see the lounging lades at my other blog -- it's been remodeled!)

On The Wings Of Lingerie Love

Oh, if only this vintage lavender half-slip with butterfly appliques was in my size! It's 100% nylon, vintage Movie Star lingerie and sooooo girlie! *swoon*

Another Vintage Lingerie Pinup Textile

This vintage 1940's printed pinup cotton towel depicts a bathing beauty seated on her ruffled vanity chair. Our pin up has just removed her bra, and her little kitty is playing with it -- adorable as a scene, but not recommended for your delicates *wink*

Lingerie Lounging Dreams

This Etsy seller knows nothing quite sells the vintage lingerie dream like beautiful ladies lounging. The photos are by CameraBandit, and if you're afraid to miss any, also check out the Fab Gabs vintage blog!

Twice As Behind

I always feel like I'm running a little behind, but right now I'm so busy working on things I feel worse than usual. To make myself feel better, at least by cluing you in, here's just some of what I'm working on for the blog:

* Not one but two exclusive interviews with lingerie designers!

* A not-so-scientific lingerie survey to enlighten us all. *wink*

* Answering your questions, which will probably result in at least two Q & A posts...

* And lining up contests for the upcoming Fall and Holiday seasons.

So please keep your panties on -- there's a plethora of posting to come!

Silky Seduction

This classic silk nightgown is pretty, but the photo by celestialendeavours412 is really why I have to show it off *wink*

A Visit To The Vintage Tattoo Parlour

Via S & M = Smoke & Mirrors, I found this vintage photo of a woman wearing lingerie getting a tattoo. No matter what you think about women with tattoos wearing lingerie, you have to admit these old tattoo photographs are pretty darn awesome -- there's even a photo of a woman getting sweet and sour tattoos on her breasts!

Collectible Vintage Lingerie Pin Up Embroidered Linens

I'm hugely obsessed with searching for vintage pin up embroidery works right now. I should say "again." Anyway...

I found this naughty vintage embroidered linen via Silent Porn Star's Dirty Napkins & Other Tawdry Textiles post. I love the sheer lingerie which exposes her padded bra and red panties.

And this vintage linen hand towel had a saucy Parisian wearing a corset and ruffle panties posing with a parasol embroidered on it.

If you love this sort of naughty needlework, check out Sew Risque Vintage Pin Up Hand Embroidery Designs Book by Doreen Locati and other vintage sewing/embroidery pattern books.

Hot Vintage Panties In Cool Aqua

Vintage full cut panties with a cool and refreshing aqua blue lace front, full solid -- but sheer -- nylon back, and contrasting black lace trim around the legs.

Like You Need A Reason To Show Off Your Pretty Vintage Slips

Via Theda Bara, I found this incredible retro maxi dress of black netting with long sleeves, a very Mary Quant ruffled collar, and fascinating fluttering velvet petals. As if that doesn't have you squealing, each and every trio of petals is adorned with a single black rhinestone!

The seller (who must be a friend of Theda's, because she mentions Theda's divine vintage lingerie shop) says this of the sexy black maxi dress:
Since it is made of soft netting, it would look great over a full vintage slip....the kind of slip that you wish you could wear as a dress. Well, now you can show off that special piece of lingerie with this fab overpiece.
We don't need such prompting; but we sure like to see the promotion of such ideas, don't we? Now quick, my slim sisters, hop over to purchase this dress before some bunny else does!

Kiss Me Deadly Limited Edition Lingerie!

I love Kiss Me Deadly's Red Jezebel Longline Knicker! It's a sheer black long line panty with a deliciously unexpected and playful red taffeta sash to tie in the back -- however, because it's a Limited Edition, it won't be around long. Grab one now!

I Want To Be A 1960s Movie Star -- Or Just Wear The Lingerie *Wink*

This 1960 Movie Star Lingerie catalog, featuring Fall & Holiday fashions, has 54 pages of gorgeous illustrations and descriptions. I wish the images were bigger, clearer scans (and I'd make them for you if I owned this!), but what I can read is charming. Crinoline petticoats, such a staple in New Look fashions, kept relevant here by using that 60's buzzword, "bouffant"; vintage full-cut nylon panties peddled under the heading "brief enchantments" and called "thigh high glamour"; all just too yummy!
